Ileo-caecal tuberculosis; case report.

چکیده
Caecal-appendicular tuberculosis represents a rare localization of tuberculous lesions. Within digestive tract tuberculosis, the ileo-caecal localization is the most frequent, and in many cases is correlated with pulmonary tuberculosis lesions. The increase incidence of tuberculosis worldwide determined a raise in the intestinal tuberculosis rate. Positive diagnosis is based on histopathological and bacteriological examination. The differential diagnosis with inflammatory bowel diseases and intestinal neoplasia is difficult, but necessary for a correct management. Because of an increase in tuberculosis prevalence worldwide, clinicians must acknowledge the existence of intestinal tuberculosis, especially in the case of a nonspecific clinical, biological or radiological presentation. Combined efforts of diverse specialists (radiologists, gastroenterologists, surgeons) are recommended in order to early diagnose and treat this disease.

Caecal tuberculosis.
Hypertrophic ileo-caecal tuberculosis was often diagnosed on clinical grounds in the last century, but it was subsequently realized that many granulomata of this type were not of tuberculous origin (Moschcowitz and Wilensky, 1923). The description of regional ileitis (Crohn, Ginzburg, and Oppenheimer, 1932) raised further doubts about the incidence of hypertrophic ileo-caecal tuberculosis; in f...

EDITORIAL SYNOPSIS The present confusion concerning the classification and terminology of granulomatous lesions of the ileo-caecal area is pointed out. Fifteen cases are reviewed with regard to clinical presentation, operative findings, and post-operative development. The tissues removed from these patients are critically reviewed with regard to features which would classify them as tuberculosi...
متن کاملTuberculosis of the terminal ileum
The incidence of intestinal tuberculosis has dramatically decreased over the past 25 years, and is reflected by the scarcity of case reports in the recent literature. The annotation, therefore, of a further proven case appears to be justified and may also serve as a reminder that the condition should always be borne in mind in the differential diagnosis of ileo-caecal lesions, particularly sinc...
متن کاملIleo-caecal tuberculosis in immigrants.
Four cases of ileo-caecal tuberculosis in Asian immigrants were seen in a 6-month period at The London Hospital. Although rare in Caucasians, this condition is an important cause of gastrointestinal symptoms in this ethnic group. Definitive diagnosis can frequently be made only by histological examination and culture of biopsy material obtained at laparotomy. However, in suitable cases, where t...
